China Opens its Longest Train Route: Guangzhou to Urumqi

On September 2, train numbers T38/35 and T36/37 – which travel from Guangzhou to Urumqi – were officially put into service. The train covers a journey of 4684 km and takes 51 hours and 57 minutes to reach its destination, making it the longest train route within the Mainland.

The train departs from Guangzhou Railway Station at 23:53 and arrives at 06:35 on the fourth day in Urumqi. The return journey departs at 15:19 from Urumqi and arrives back in Guangzhou at 19:23 on the third day. The price of hard seats (not recommended) cost 423.5 RMB and hard sleepers cost 765.5 RMB.
