A 10 year old boy in Chengdu, Sichuan successfully bargained a new bike for himself after he returned a stranger’s wallet that he had found on a bus.
The boy found the wallet with 491 RMB inside on July 14. According to the boy’s mother, he wanted to use the money to buy himself a bicycle; his mother suggested that he return the wallet and ask the owner for a bicycle in return.
The mother contacted the man, Li Bo, using information found in his wallet and this was followed by a stand off between the boy and the man, whereby the boy attempted to persuade the man to buy him a bicycle worth 400 RMB. After several rounds of calls and texts, the two parties agreed to meet.
Li Bo, however brought journalists with him to the meeting and this made the boy and his mother reluctant to be too pushy about the bike- however in the end, Li bought the boy a bike worth 300 RMB.
And the lesson we all learnt here? Extortion pays off and you should never do something for another person, unless there’s something in it for you.

A nice way to teach Chinese children early, there is no such thing as a good samaritan, if you are going to do something for someone, you MUST get something in return. What ever happened to Confucius?
