The warmest time in Changsha is July when the average temperature is 28.6°C and the area is very humid. In the evening however the temperature plummets and smart visitors should bring layers to keep warm. The most popular times to visit the city are usually spring and autumn. The weather in Changsha is notoriously changeable, so whatever time of year, visitors are advised to carry lightweight waterproofs or an umbrella when exploring the city.

A major part of visiting any new city, is sampling the local delicacies. In Changsha there are a number of street vendors serving delicious snacks and while the majority of food is perfectly safe, travelers sometimes have problems with the Mifen (rice noodles) which have been known to cause illness in those to whom they are unfamiliar.
