Changchun actually has three passenger railway stations: Changchun Railway Station, Changchun East Railway Station, and Changchun South Railway Station. Both the East and South stations are very small and only local trains stop there. All trains stop at Changchun Railway Station and this is the place you need to go if you wish to travel long distance.

Changchun Railway Station, the third largest railway station in northeastern China, is located in the northern part of the city, more specifically at the northernmost end of Renmin Dajie. Trains from here reach dozens of cities in China, including Beijing (7 hrs), Shanghai (30 hrs), and Xi'an (30.5 hrs).
Rail travel is by far the cheapest way to travel in and out of Changchun. Of course, if you don't want to go to the train station to buy tickets yourself, you can go to any travel agent, who will do this on your behalf, usually for 10-20 RMB extra. 

There are three different ways to book a train ticket in Changchun: over the phone, online, and at the ticket window. Tickets can be purchased over the telephone (9510 5105) anywhere from 4-12 days in advance. If you make a reservation between 6:00-12:00, the tickets must be collected on the same day between 12:00-24:00. For reservations made between 12:00-23:00, you must pick up tickets the next day from 0:00-12:00. If you fail to pick up reserved tickets within this window your reservation will automatically become void! In addition, train tickets are non transferable and are void if not used on the correct day.

Tickets can also be purchased online at www.12306.cn. Here tickets can be reserved daily from 7:00-23:00 up to 12 days in advance.
