Taxis are an inexpensive way to see the city—they're cheap even by Chinese standards. A flat fee of 5 RMB covers the first 2.5 kilometers, with a surcharge of 2 RMB for every additional 1 km, plus a final fuel surcharge of 1 RMB. The older maroon Jetta taxis are slowly being replaced by newer “Red Flag” cabs. A red light indicates that the taxi is free to pick up passengers.
