According to a food quality supervision report recently released by the Guangzhou Industry and Commerce Administration Bureau, the bacteria Staphylococcus was detected in a batch of Sanquan and Haibawang dumplings. The French supermarket chain Carrefour ordered all of its branches in Shanghai to stop selling the dumplings after samples were found to contain the potentially deadly bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, which can cause pneumonia.

Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most common pathogens that can cause pneumonia, sepsis and other systemic infections. The current national standard for quick-frozen dumpling does not currently check for Staphylococcus aureus.
