A Zhengzhou TV anchor who decided against chemotherapy treatment for the sake of her unborn child has died, aged 26, leaving behind a husband and three month old baby.

Qiu Yuanyuan discovered a malignant tumour earlier this year when she was pregnant. However, she decided to halt her treatment so as not to harm her unborn child. The act allowed her to give birth to a healthy son in September, but allowed the cancer to spread, costing her her life.

She died on the evening of her son’s 100 day celebration- an important family celebration in China that takes place when the child is 100 days old.

Tributes have been flooding in on Weibo as the news went viral earlier today, with netizens offering messages of support and sympathy to her and her family.

Her husband, journalist Zhang Qixuan when interviewed said “I hope everyone can silently bless her and our child, and smile at life – just as Yuanyuan did.”
