Brief Intro to Daqing Dining

As a young oil city enjoying rapid economic growth, Daqing offers an ever increasing number of fast food restaurants that specialize in local cuisine. Such local delicacies as qiu mu'er fungus, fiddlehead fish and flying dragon are known as much for their unique flavors as for their medicinal properties.

Daqing's rich water resources are teeming with what is referred to as "San Hua Wu Luo", which is a soup made from eight different types of fish. Sturgeon and beachhead fish are also commonly found. The fishes and their soups are fresh, tasty and very nutritious. Specialties include Sanhua Wuluo, sashimi of Tongxiang Hezhe Ethnic Minority and all-fish banquets.

More traditional Chinese dishes are also readily available at restaurants throughout Daqing. Tender braised chicken, pig trotters, tripe and pine nuts, and the ever reliable jiaozi (dumpling stuffed with minced vegetables and meats) are all local favorites.

In terms of international cuisine, Daqing is still in its infancy. French cuisine at Xiangxie Lishe Western Food Restaurant and Korean cuisine at Qianlima Baihe Liaoli Restaurant and Dianshu Liaoli Restaurant make up the sparse variety of upscale restaurants serving international cuisine in Daqing. To be sure, several western fast food chain restaurants, including KFC, Dicos, and Mc Donald's, have sprouted throughout the city, and Japanese fare can be found at several restaurants.

But this blossoming city is just beginning to show international diversity in its cuisine.
