Body of Baby Sent to Crematorium, Returned to Hospital When it Turns out He Was Alive

A baby’s death is always a tragic occasion, but we think this story of a baby boy living is even more tragic. Wouldn’t think it was possible, would you?

Seven days after being born a baby boy died, was issued a death certificate and sent to the crematorium. When crematorium workers inspected the body, they realised the baby boy wasn’t dead at all and rushed him back to the hospital.

Was this a case of abandonment, or hospital negligence? Sadly, for this wee fellow it was a combination of the two. The boy was born with a congenital birth defect that couldn’t be cured. So the parents walked away and left him in the hospital.

Since being abandoned by his parents, the hospital was looking after him, kind of. According to the records, “The child is in critical condition; soon his whole body will be blue, he won’t breathe or have a heartbeat.” A nurse wrote that there was ‘no sign of life’, so a doctor issued a death certificate.

The manager of the funeral home said, “The hospital had issued a death certificate, we wouldn’t have accepted him otherwise.”

The boy is now, finally, getting treated.

The Anhui Children hospital where this fiasco took place is currently under investigation and the nurse has been fired. No word on the doctor though.
