"Black Boxes" to be Installed in Chongqing Taxis Next Summer
Nov 22, 2011 By eChinacities.com

The Chongqing Morning Post recently reported that beginning next June, all city taxis will have a "black box" installed that will continuously monitor the vehicles’ operations. This black box will be able to identify when drivers "drive the long way" to a destination, collect illegal fees or go against regulations and will even keep track of the driver's ID, making it easier to identify "cloned" cars. Taxi headlights and signals will be upgraded next year as well.
