Starting from 2010, the current temporary residence permit for the floating population in Beijing will be changed into a new permit that contains a microchip to store personal data. Information of the card holder such as employment and accommodation will be stored. The new system will provide convenience to the floating population when they are applying for schools, receiving medical treatment or buying houses.
