Beijing’s Reaction to Stabbings? Forget Mental Health, Ban Knives Instead!

Beijing’s Reaction to Stabbings? Forget Mental Health, Ban Knives Instead!
Jul 24, 2013 By eChinacities.com

In what has to rank among the most sensationalist responses to isolated incidents ever, supermarkets in Beijing have been told to stop selling knives after two consecutive fatal stabbings occurred in the capital in less than seven days.

Police have reportedly already confiscated over 1,100 knives, though netizens have been quick to mock the ruling which has been blasted as unfair given the fact that these two incidents have now caused inconvenience for Beijing’s 20 million residents.

If the ruling becomes compulsory across the city, how will it affect Beijing’s roast duck restaurants? How will Beijing’s countless street peddlers slice their fruit while they avoid constant bullying from the Chengguan? Will they be allowed to have knives?

Of course, the whole issue seems to completely brush over the underlying mental health and societal issues that seemed to trigger these attacks.

I've noticed that the better the economy in China is, the more stupid or useless laws they make.^^
