was the first bridge over the Pearl River to have been built in east Guangzhou.

With Huangpu Bridge beginning operation at 18:00 on December 16th, the expressway that runs from Beijing in north China to Zhuhai in south China is now fully operational. Therefore, it would become only ten minutes' drive between Huangpu and Panyu.

As the east part of the ring and the east part of the expressway in the Pearl River Delta Economic Zone, the Huangpu Bridge starts in Huocun Village in Luogang District, joins the north 2nd ring expressway and the Guangzhou – Shenzhen expressway and finally joins the Guangzhou-Zhuhai east expressway and the Guangzhou – Gaoming (in Foshan) expressway. The whole project costs about RMB4.2 billion and covers 18.694 kilometers. The bridge is 7,016 meters long. The project was launched in April, 2005 and was completed on October 28th, 2008. Compared with similar bridges in China, Huangpu Bridge was completed almost a year ahead of schedule. In addition, the bridge features complex and colossal objects including the longest steel box girder bridge (1,108 meters) in southern China, the longest steel box girder cable bridge of dual cable planes (383 meters) in China, Mobile Mold Casting of Continuous Box Beams with the largest span in the world (62.5 meters) and the first dual-cave eight-lane tunnels in China.

The construction of the Huangpu Bridge also resulted in a connection between the expressways, highways and trunk roads in and around Guangzhou, including the north 2nd ring, the Guangzhou – Shenzhen expressway, the Guangzhou – Gaoming expressway and the north section of the Guangzhou – Zhuhai expressway. As a result, a perfect traffic net shall come into being between Luogang District, Huangpu District and Panyu District.
