Wang Zhiguo, the Vice Director of the Ministry of Railways, stated that the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway will open to traffic in June 2011, with the Harbin-Dalian rail soon to be completed as well. The Tianjin-Qinhuangdao rail will also be put into operation, connecting the previous Beijing-Tianjin, Qinhuangdao-Shenyang intercity rails, thus forming the initial high-speed railway network in northeast China.

By the end of this year, the Beijing-Shijiazhuang-Wuhan high-speed rail will open to traffic, with a whole course of 4 hours. By connecting the existing Wuhan-Guangzhou high-speed rail, the whole Beijing-Guangzhou line will go into operation. Meanwhile, the Wuhan-Guangzhou high-speed rail will extend to Shenzhen.

The high-speed railways from Nanjing to Hangzhou and from Hangzhou to Ningbo will also be completed this year, forming a network with the existing high-speed rails along the coast.
