Beijing officially signed an agreement with Comcast NBC Universal to build a Beijing Universal Studios theme park and resort on September 13.

The project was first approved by Beijing’s State Council last year, on September 25, 2014.

The new Beijing Universal Studios theme park will be located in Tongzhou District, on a four square kilometer site. The theme park will be the largest Universal Studios theme park in the world.

The park will be the sixth Universal theme park in the world, and the third in Asia (after Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, and University Studios Singapore).

The theme park and resort will be under construction for five years and will open in 2019. After completion, work will begin on a second theme park, a waterpark, and five more resorts. Hollywood director Steven Spielberg will held design the Beijing Universal Studios theme park.

Beijing Universal Studios is expected to draw more than 10 million tourists annually, and earn about 80 billion Yuan per year in operating income.

80亿元 would be 8 billion yuan. Looking at other numbers from Universal Hollywood Resorts, that number still sounds inflated. Where's some real data?
