Beijing Metro Line 6 is Scheduled to Open in 2012

On Mar. 22nd, the shield machine of the first phase of Line 6 began to dig in Shilipu Station in Chaoyang District, bringing the construction of the line into the shield tunneling stage. Running from east to west, Line 6 is the longest express subway line currently under construction in in Beijing. It may be the first of Beijing's subway lines to feature express and local stations.

It is said that Line 6 will start from Wulu Station in Haidian District at its west end, running through Chaoyang North Road, and ending in Dongxiaoying Station in Tongzhou District at its east end. The subway line runs through 5 executive districts of Beijing, and has the most transfer stations among all existing subway stations in the city (10 in total). Transfer stations include Chegongzhuang and Chaoyangmen with Line 2, Ping'anli transfer station with Line 4, Manluoguxiang transfer station with Line 8, Dongsi transfer station with Line 5, Line 3 and Line 8 and Hujialou transfer station with Line 10.

The designed speed of Line 6 is 80-100km/h, at only 1 hour is needed to travel the length of the entire line. The line is expected to open at the end of 2012. After the second phase of construction, the whole line will be opened to the public in 2015.
