A report on the average annual salaries of urban workers in China for the year 2014 has been publicized, detailing the earnings of public and private sector workers in urban areas across the country.

Of the 20 provinces and municipalities indicated in the report, it was revealed that Beijing ranked the highest in employee wages for both public and private sector jobs in 2014. On average for that year, Beijing’s public sector employees netted 102, 268 RMB while their private sector counterparts earned 52, 902 RMB.

Aside from Beijing, public sector wages ranked highest in Zhejiang, Guangdong, Qinghai, and Chongqing; whereas private sector wages ranked highest in Guangdong, Chongqing, Zhejiang, and Anhui respectively.

The overall national average for public sector employees in urban areas was 56, 339 RMB while the average for their private sector counterparts was 36, 360 RMB. When adjusted for inflation, these figures amount to a 7.1 % and  9.0% increase from the previous year.

Henan earned special mention by ranking dead last in urban wages, with public sector employees barely earning 42, 000 RMB per year and private sector employees earning a meager 27, 500 RMB per year. These figures pale in comparison to Beijing’s; with the former being 2.5 times smaller and the latter being 2 times smaller.

On a similar note, the national average income for urban workers was not actually representative for most provinces. Only workers in the top 5 ranking provinces actually made more than the national average, meaning that urban worker income may be skewed between those provinces and the rest.

Chongqing is a municipality like Shanghai and Beijing. They're technically provinces but they are municipal provinces. The survey sorta cherry picked places for their study because China has 31 or 32 provinces technically.
