Beijing Gets Biggest Snow Since 1951

Beijing received its heaviest snows in 59 years snows on Jan. 3rd. The Beijing Meteorological Station issued warnings eight for cold fronts and blizzard, including the first ever use of the yellow alert for blizzard and orange warning signal for road ice. The snow started late Jan. 2nd and lasted until 20:00 on Jan. 3rd. The average precipitation in central Beijing was 11mm and that of the city proper was 13mm, making it the biggest snow the city has experienced since January, 1951. The temperature will continue to drop on Jan. 4th – the high is expected to be -9℃ – which would make it the coldest day in Beijing since January 1951.
