Beijing Faces Garbage Crises

Beijing Faces Garbage Crises
Dec 01, 2009 By eChinacities.com

Beijing generates 18,400 tonnes of trash every day but the designed capacity for garbage disposal plants is 10,400 tonnes and the actual daily amount the plant deals with is 17,400 tonnes. As a result, the current facilities are severely overloaded. Moreover, the city’s trash is increasing by 8% annually. The amount of trash that goes into landfills is equivalent to swallowing 500 acres of land. The sorting of garbage remains at a low level and is not efficient in reducing the amount of trash. Therefore, Beijing is currently facing a severe garbage crisis.
