Beijing Conducting Survey on Taxi Fare Increases

Beijing Conducting Survey on Taxi Fare Increases
Feb 22, 2011 By eChinacities.com

A debate has erupted about whether Beijing taxi fares should increase following the rise of gasoline prices on February 20th. According to reports, at present the Beijing Development and Reform Committee and Beijing Transportation Department are conducting surveys on the taxi fare adjustment. According to the Beijing Traffic Department, taxi fares are unlikely to rise in the first half year because it will take about half year to implement a new policy after a public hearing. Reports suggest that there are two possible adjustment plans: one is to raise the taxi starting price or price per km, and another is to increase the taxi fuel charge from the current RMB 1 to 2. The two possible plans both need further assessment based on survey results.
