Beijing Aunties Each Bring Dozens of Shoes to Free Shoe-Shine Event, Make Shoe-Shiner Faint
Apr 30, 2015 By eChinacities.com

On April 28, a movie theater in Beijing ran a free promotional event in which moviegoers could receive a complimentary shoeshine. Beijing aunties flocked to the theater each carrying dozens of shoes for their free shoeshine. That day, the weather was so hot that one of the male models working as a shoe-shiner collapsed from heat stroke. The whole incident went viral on Weibo, with Netizens writing that, “China's aunties are too powerful!”

Xiao Jia, is a handsome model in his early 20s, who worked the event by shining shoes. The event attracted a huge crowd because of the discount ticket prices and the sale of discounted movie theater online membership cards. The organizers only hired one model, Xiao Jia, to shine shoes. When the aunties each brought dozens of shoes to be shined, it was too much for poor Xiao Jia. He almost fainted from the heat and had to sit on the ground.

After the incident, Xiao Jia said that he was not upset with the aggressive aunties. “I'll be fine after I rest. Before this, I didn't realize how hard it was to take care of a family. Just shining shoes alone is so tiring. Aunties work very hard for their families.”

These are honest hard working ayis who deserved a well earned break and shoe shine. Good luck to them. Nobody told them they couldn't bring extra pairs of shoes. They are certainly not to blame in this instance.
