On May 24, police in Jinan’s Licheng District investigated an internet café in the area that was reportedly handing out random ID cards to customers to register with. One of the ID cards displayed the surname “Obama” and also featured a picture of the current U.S. President.
Hilariously, the ID card even included an address of “The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington DC” as well as Obama’s date of birth and ethnicity, which stated “Kenyan”. Police, being the investigative geniuses they are, were quick to realize that the ID was fake.
Upon further investigation, police found that the Obama visage was concealing the details of a man surnamed Wang from Jinan’s Huaiyin District. After contacting Wang, police learned that he had misplaced his ID card while he was surfing the net sometime back in 2010.
Apparently, after finding Wang’s lost card, café manager Guo saw it as a great opportunity to allow customers who didn’t have their ID cards on them (registration is required when entering a Chinese internet café) to surf the web hassle-free. Guo then came up with the wonderfully inconspicuous plan of sticking a fake Obama ID over the top of Wang’s. Guo has been fined 1,000 RMB.
