Apple has registered Apple Technology Services (Shanghai) Co Ltd to bring Apple Pay to China.
Apple Technology Services (Shanghai) Co Ltd’s legal representative is Apple vice president and chief financial officer Gary Joseph Wipfler.
Apple declined to comment on the timeline or other details.
It is believed that the company is registered in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone. The move to Shanghai shows that Apple is serious about its plan to break into the Chinese payments market. Apple Pay is now slated to start business in China.
Apple officially launched the Apple Pay function in October 2014. Apple Pay is already available in other countries including the U.S. and Britain.
Rumors of Apple Pay coming to China began last year, when news broke that Apple made an agreement with China’s UnionPay. In May this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook visited China. One purpose of his trip was to help set up the foundation for Apple Pay in China.
