Anti-Corruption Campaign Causes Scotch Sales to Plummet in China

Bad news, Scotland. Due to Xi Jinping’s move to curb corruption and excessive spending, scotch sales have dropped dramatically in the past year.

The effects of the anti corruption movement are being felt far and wide to the dismay of several leading distilleries. Scotch sales have apparently dropped by 41 percent since last year, according to statistics released by the Chinese government.

A spokesman for the Scotch Whiskey Association said: “China’s austerity measures and economic slowdown are both key factors that have contributed to the decline in whiskey sales, but we still have confidence in the future of the Chinese market.”

Nevertheless, the industry will still take some time to recover from the blow as the government doesn’t look like it’s going to loosen up on the austerity measures any times soon
