American Teacher in Zhejiang has a Creative Method to Stop Cheating in his Class
Nov 23, 2015 By eChinacities.com

A photo of an American teacher named Andy at Zhejiang University Ningbo Institute of Technology looking triumphant after confiscating all of his students’ phones before an exam, went viral amongst students at the university two days ago.

Junior Wang Ruoyao said that Andy had confiscated all of his students’ phones during their midterm to avoid cheating. He wrote the names of all 31 students on the blackboard while the students were cramming last minute before the exam, and had a slot for each student to place their phone.

Andy teaches English at the university, and confiscated the phones before an afternoon Business English exam. Wang said that he snapped a photo of Andy, while he posed in front of the phones, deliberately looking intimidating.

Andy has been teaching at the university for a year, and the students really like him and appreciate his humor.

Big deal we were doing that 10 years ago, I went as far aa confiscating phones for 2 weeks if I saw them in class. Difference between this guy and I is that my students had enough/fear that they would ever try sneaking a picture of me. He imo is on the right track, in a few years he will probably get it. It being the students behave like children

I doubt that students would even care about an English exam it's not like they take the subject seriously.

Phones are actually the least used method of cheating. Cheat sheets (glasses case, pencil case, bottles, you name it), writing notes on their hands and whispering sounds to each other are what I often find students trying. Simple fix, day of exam, everything in your bag except your pens. Nothing on your desk except your pens. Explain, if I see anything in your desk or around you, you will fail the exam. Then observe closely. Do not rely on the Chinese proctor.
