Almost Half of Chinese Families Spend 6,000 RMB a Year on Home Education

A survey on Chinese families’ attitude to early education has shown that almost half of families nationwide spend around 6,000 RMB on home education for their children.

Nearly 80 percent of families have bought audio-visual aids and educational books for their children aged 0-6; almost 60 percent of families have paid for extra lessons for their children; and families in first tier cities reported that their monthly expenditure on education materials for children is 500-1,000 RMB.

While 70 percent of respondents replied that the mother took the main responsibility for the child’s education, mothers and fathers had different ideas about their levels of contribution.

Many mothers responded that they took responsibility for over 90 percent of the workload of educating the child, whilst the father took less than 10 percent. However, fathers disagreed, saying that they believed that they contributed up to 40 percent.

Common parenting problems that were identified by post-80’s generation parents were lack of patience and not having enough time to spend with their kids.

That's nothing compared to the bribes they pay to get their kids into ivy league (by their standard) schools, from kindergarten to university, which is nothing compare to the bribes they pay to get jackpot positions within the government, which is nothing compare to the bribes their kids COLLECT once they secure those positions. Although the Chinese race didn't invent the term cost-benefit analysis, Chinese had been doing it long before its invention. How much bribe should you pay the dozens of gatekeepers of Forbidden City? Piece of cake, think of how much you would get once you get through that door. Keep in mind there are MANY gates beyond the front gate though so sloppy cost-benefit analysis gets you Chapter 11. Who should you pick as your son/daughter-in-law? Piece of cake, how much/what do you get once they get married? Of course you need a facade to cover all these up so that's another area with 5000+ years of expertise. Chinese New Year is around the corner, so, how much hongbaos (red packets) have you prepared and anticipated to receive? That also is an 'art' in itself. Remember, face..... LOL
