According to the Shanghai traffic police, Shanghai is to equip all of its 49,000 taxis with electronic ID cards at the end of the year in an effort to combat illegal cabs. Police can easily find out whether a taxi is fake or not by scanning the car’s electronic ID card with a point of sale (POS) machine.
