This year's eight-day National Holiday was a bittersweet affair. For the majority of the population it meant a rare opportunity to visit family or to travel to distance places. However, many thousands of people were also hit with the news of the death or injury of loved ones during this year's second largest mass migration. From September 30 to October 7, a total of 88,422 traffic accidents were recorded across the country. According to Xinhua News Agency, a total of 2,473 people were injured and 794 people lost their lives. Among those killed were five German nationals whose tour bus collided with a container truck and burst into flames outside Tianjin. However, these figures indicate a year-on-year decrease of 24%.
