72 Detained in Xinjiang for Spreading Online Riot Rumors

72 people have been detained for spreading various rumors about attacks in Xinjiang that were distributed online between June 28 and July 15.

Between the aforementioned dates, authorities found 802 posts regarding attacks in Xinjiang, and it was discovered that a total of 199 people were involved in their online distribution.

It has been reported that most of the people behind the rumor spreading were unemployed, migrant workers, youths or students.

The rumors detailed information about violent riots, while some posts aimed to incite division between ethnic groups.

The bust comes weeks after a deadly riot that occurred in Lukqun Town in the Turpan prefecture.
