680 Criminals Caught in China’s Overseas Operation Fox Hunt

China’s ‘Operation Fox Hunt’, an overseas man-hunt that aims to catch economic criminals has successfully repatriated 680 suspects, Shanghai Daily reports.

The overseas operation to catch corrupt officials ran from July to December 31 last year and was designed to ‘block the last route of retreat’ for corrupt officials. Of the 680 who were repatriated, 208 had been linked to economic crimes of over 10 millions RMB, whilst 117 had been on the run for over a decade. One official had successfully evaded capture for 22 years.

390 of the officials actually decided to turn themselves in.

China’s crackdown on corruption expanded overseas this year as ‘naked officials’- government officials whose families lived overseas, were threatened with demotion and recalled from overseas.
