5000 RMB Scholarship Given to University “Goddess” at Student Beauty Pageant

Beijing Normal University’s Zhuhai campus has been giving feminists something to rally against recently, in the form of their student beauty pageant. A banner for the competition read “Whoever is the Goddess of campus wins 5000 RMB”. Will they be judging intellect? Effort in their studies?...Nope

After being judged by a professional make-up artist (the event was of course sponsored by a cosmetic retailer), 12 contestants were then inspected by a panel of judges as well as being judged by the audience. The three runners up won 1000 RMB worth of cosmetic bags and the winner won a 5000 RMB scholarship.

Luckily, for all the feminists out there, all is not lost as netizens have been questioning the appropriateness of having a university beauty pageant. Many wondering whether a competition that judged female students on their looks was, oh I don’t know, unfair.

Right, that's the bias that exists within societies worldwide. But shouldn't uni be the place where these 'chosen ones' learn useful skills? In China, university is just aplace where exhausted kids who finished the oppressive primary and middle school programs are finally free from teacher/parent oversight, and can have some FUN. Definitions of fun vary wildly, though. There's already rampant prostitution among the lazy, greedy girls with rich businessmen, but why does the university play along with this? Universities should be places of higher learning, not whorehouses for the rich. Education in China seems to be focused on making people petty, smallminded and dumb. Pretty people in China are about as useful as a bag of nails at their jobs. Plus side is, that the less attractive, often uneducated people have a better chance of becoming successful due to their higher competence. Hey, did the Communist Party of China unintentionally create a situation that might be favourable to the poor? Hilarious! They're even crap at being complete sellouts!
