500 RMB Fines for Eating on Shanghai Subway to Become Reality Soon

The “Shanghai Rail Traffic Management Ordinance (Amendment Bill)" was submitted to the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress on September 17, which when passed, will make it illegal to consume food and drink inside Shanghai’s subway carriages.

What’s more, in addition to eating and drinking, smoking, spitting and urinating have also been listed as offenses. Passengers who violate these rules in the future will face fines of 50-500 RMB.
