On June 10, a French man named Thomas, who was traveling in Shanghai, was randomly beaten on the street outside Bar 88 by a group of seven Chinese men in their 20s. The attack happened around 04:15, and saw Thomas being dragged out of a taxi before being kicked and punched. According to an eyewitness, one of the attackers even had a knife and took a swipe at Thomas, though fortunately missed.
On June 18, a spokesman for the Shanghai Public Security Bureau stated that four men have detained regarding the attack, and put the incident down to “friction on the dance floor”, despite Thomas insisting it was a racist attack. “Nothing happened in the club. We were not drunk. It was just pure racism,” explained the Frenchman.
Police are currently searching for more suspects while Thomas has returned to France to recover.

i have experienced this too, and yes it was RACIST attack. the bastards said all kinds of shit to me first saying get out of the country and keep away from chinese girls. bunch of twats

The Police are absolutely correct that they had skirmishes over girls. You were not there, but "more than likely the Frenchman spoke to a girl , and the Chinese men did not like". You have already passed judgement and show who the racist is with statements like this: "like the cowards Chinese men are...". I will not take the low road like you throwing invectives at everybody, but I will insist people should stay away from nightclubs, especially when they are traveling abroad for the first time. It doesn't matter whether the fight you start in a night club finishes there, or outside. What is important is not going to night clubs in strange places. There all kinds of articles on these site ridiculing Chinese, and I don't think any person is going to stop people from criticizing foreigners here. You cannot think from my brains. If you think everything is bad here, make your choices by yourself. You cannot claim the Police are wrong and you want to gloss over the issue by saying the Frenchman merely spoke to the girl. That is intellectual dishonesty and I don't think you can have your cake and eat it.

"Friction on the dance floor" is a euphemism for fighting over girls and they are correct. A US basketball player was hacked to death last year in the Scandinavians and commenters were unanimous here that people need to be careful the way they handle themselves, especially in their first trip abroad. This is the same message we need to drum louder. Don't go and stand tall over others in a nightclub. The way people look at foreigners in China has changed. By the way things concerning night clubs never end well. This is because children of all kinds of "big fishes" go out there to show off, so the Police hands are always tight. When you go to nightclubs, stay in your own small corner with or without an entourage. The idea of touching, dragging, fondling girls in night clubs doesn't go down well here. This is from apparent reasons were all know. Study your surroundings and you will never cause or get into trouble, be you foreigner or Chinese.

Firefighter, you are the biggest racist on this website. "They are correct?" You have a crystal ball? Can I have lottery numbers? More than likely the Frenchman spoke to a girl, the Chinese men didn't like that, and like the cowards Chinese men are, waited for the Frenchman to be alone before they pounced on him like rabid dogs. Don't worry, the Frenchman left the country so nothing will be done. I'm sure the police, the good, honest non-racist, non-bribe taking police in China, will arrest all involved and the good, non-Xenophobic justice system here will convict them. Wait, I'm positive of the opposite. Here is Firefighter's attitude towards foreigners: "Accept being in a lower status than dogs, lao wai. . .or go home, but leave your money because that's all you're good for. If you do something to a Chinese person, you're wrong. If they do something to you, you're still wrong because of the color of your skin."

I smell a police whitewash. "friction on the dance floor" seems like they are looking to blame the victim. 70% the Chinese, 30% the Frenchman. Expect lies and nothing to happen. After all, it was only a foreigner that was attacked.
