After spending time together in a room at Gao’s parents’ place however, temptations proved impossible to resist. After the holiday, they went their separate ways, but several months later, Xie discovered she was pregnant and was forced to have an abortion. Despite repeatedly trying to explain the situation, Gao refused to take responsibility and help pay for the procedure. One year later, Xie took matters into her own hands. Knowing where his parents lived, she showed up at their house during Spring Festival and confronted Gao. But as before, he continued refusing to take responsibility. Finally, Xie consulted the Yuzhou legal authorities, which ruled on February 16 that both parties were responsible for the pregnancy, and that Gao should be equally liable for the consequences. Gao eventually agreed to pay for half of the abortion fee, which had cost Xie more than 3,000 RMB.
