On February 19 in Maoming, Guangdong, 33 people, allegedly from South East Asia, were arrested on smuggling charges. The group consisted of 32 foreign nationals and one Chinese citizen believed to be the leader of a smuggling syndicate.
Local authorities announced that the group of foreigners heard that after Chinese New Year a labor shortage takes place, so they were coming to fill those vacant positions.
