2.1 Billion Cell Phones Worldwide Effected by Virus; China Hardest Hit

Global security firm NetQin recently issued a report about cell phone security which claimed that in the first half of 2013, a total of 51,084 different kinds of malware were detected which affected 2.102 billion cell phones worldwide. Compared to the same period last year, these figures represent a 189% and 63.8% growth respectively.

The report claims that 31.7% of cell phones in China are affected, making it the worst-affected country in the world. Russia, India and the U.S. came in the top four.

According to the firm, the three most common ways for the malware and viruses to enter a phone is through third-party app stores, cell phone forums and QR codes. Also noteworthy, 95% of phone affected were smart phones using Android operating systems.
