According to reports, the Shanghai to Hong Kong high-speed railway is under construction, the whole railway being about 1300 km in length. The project is expected to be completed at the end of 2012 to 2013. By then, the fastest direct train from Shanghai to Hong Kong will take only 6 hours; the current one-way Shanghai-Kowloon train takes almost 19 hours.
