Recently, Shenzhen's Luohu District court has presided over an unusual rape case involving a 16-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl who fell in love and decided to live together. Although both families have not sought any official punishment for sexual assault or rape, the boy was nonetheless charged with rape as he knowingly had relations with a minor under the age of 14 and may spend one year and three months in prison.

The 16-year-old boy "Hua" was born in August of 1995, and had the case brought against him in 2011 when he turned 16. According to official reports, "Hua" met "Zhang", a 13-year-old girl born in June of 1998, in August of 2011 and they became intimate.
