Fuzhou police have rescued two hostages that were kidnapped on August 28 and arrested 12 suspects. The public security bureau announced in a press conference on September 10 that they have also returned 10 million Yuan to the victims extorted in the case.

On August 28, Cangshan District police received a call that company chairman Li and his wife had been kidnapped. Their car had been hijacked by a criminal gang. A man on a moped had purposefully scratched the side of Li’s car, and when Li and his driver got out to inspect it, the suspects hijacked the car with Li and his wife inside.

One of the suspects, Lu, had prepared a commercial vehicle to drive Li and wife out to an abandoned farm, where other suspects were waiting. Suspects threatened and beat the couple, and demanded ransom. Li handed over the 1,200 Yuan he had in cash and all of his credit cards. He was then forced to call his colleagues and friends to raise funds to transfer to the suspects. He was able to raise 15.3 million Yuan.

The suspects left the victims and fled to various provinces including Fujian, Guizhou, Jiangxi, and the city of Tianjin. Police froze 590 million Yuan worth of the suspects’ total assets, and recovered more than 430 million Yuan in cash when they were brought in.

The 12 suspects were arrested for kidnaping, and the case is still currently under investigation.
