The Zhonglu and Jiuzhou taxi companies recently announced that 102 of their taxis in Nanning are now "star" ranked. The two companies have selected the first group of taxi drivers in their Star Taxi programme, and they can be distinguished from ordinary taxis by the sign on the side of the car that says "Star Service Vehicle" (星级服务车). Recipients of the Star Taxi award are divided into three rankings: 3-star, 4-star and 5-star. The programme will select a new group of Star Taxis every two years. If the driver of a Star Taxi breaks traffic regulations, or refuses to transport someone, they will lose their ranking. Conversely, if a driver displays outstanding services, they will have a chance to join the programme. The cab fare for Star Taxis is the same as ordinary drivers.
