The Best China Business Blogs
Aug 21, 2010 By Susie Gordon , eChinacities.com

The words “China” and “business” are practically synonymous these days, with every other expat you meet claiming to be an entrepreneur who will take the nation by storm and make a million off the back of the dragon. Whether you’re a budding business brain yourself, or just like to keep abreast of Chinese business trends, here are some China business blogs, in no particular order, that you should add to your RSS feed.

1) China Law Blog
Published by international law firm Harris & Moure, pllc, this blog has been going since 2006. Its posts deal with practical aspects of Chinese law, and their effects on business. The blog is designed to help businesses set up in China, and offer advice to those which already have a presence here. It is written and maintained by American lawyers Dan Harris and Steve Dickinson, who are both experts in drafting international contracts, international litigation and arbitration. Interesting posts include a series of pieces challenging commonly held misconceptions on Chinese business topics likeguanxi.

3) China Hearsay
This blog provides a commentary on the Chinese economy, business, and law. It is written by Stan Abrams, and IP/IT lawyer and law professor based in Beijing. 4) ChinaSolved
A website offering “China business solutions”, China Solved is an online resource for international managers working in the Middle Kingdom. The website and its blog were founded by Shanghai-based management consultant Andrew Hupert, and the blog counts an array of international business people among its contributors. Topics are interesting and often light-hearted, such as “What’s Your Expat Raison d’Etre” and tongue in cheek analyses of Confucianism.

5) China In Depth
This serious-looking black and white site definitely looks like it means business. An offshoot of Cai Business Indepth Limited, the site aims “to be the definitive provider of business intelligence on China through focused analysis and in-depth insight into the country’s evolving corporate, financial and capital markets and its ever-changing regulatory environment”. More simply, it provides China-related business news to the English speaking world. Straight to the point, and deeply intelligent, this is the thinking businessperson’s blog.

6) Path to China
It might not look like much, but this simple WordPress blog has some useful information about setting up and registering businesses in China. The main Path to China website has been running since 1999, and has helped over 1,000 clients start businesses in China. The site launched their blog in March 2007 as a repository for extra information and tips.

7) Cleaner Greener China
A resource for sustainable and eco-friendly ideas in business, this blog taps into the current trend for greening. It has been operational since July 2008, and has built a good archive of posts detailing how sustainability can be applied to business practise. The blog is laid out in shades of green with a simple logo, adding to its green appeal. For businesspeople looking to keep up with eco trends, this is the blog to read.

8) Managing the Dragon
This blog belongs to Wall Street veteran Jack Perkowski, and is basically a publicity vehicle for his book of the same name, sub-headed “How I’m Building a Billion-Dollar Business in China”. If you can bring yourself to look beyond his nauseatingly capitalist bluster, there are some interesting posts. In any case, reading the blog saves buying his book and lining his greasy little pockets.

The China Observer categorizes itself as “local observations, global implications” and that just about sums it up. Posts come from writers both inside and outside of China, and offer insights into Chinese business, economics and law from commentators around the world. The blog was set up by economist and Fulbright scholar Joel Backaler, and was voted best business-law blog in the 2008 Best China Blogs awards.
