On June 25 in Wuhan, a “mermaid” and her helper—a man dressed in a wetsuit—arrived at a university job fair to advertise jobs for the local Donghu Ocean Aquarium.
The job on show was for the role of “mermaid” (which presumably entails swimming around in one of the aquarium’s pools), a position which pays a monthly salary of 6,000 RMB. As long as candidates were female, could swim, and were over 1.65m tall, then they would be considered for the job.
In no time, over 20 resumes were handed in by students/budding mermaids.
