Trusted Chinese Brands in the World Market

Trusted Chinese Brands in the World Market
Oct 09, 2009 By eChinacities.com

When it comes to goods made in China, four descriptions pop into the minds of most of the world’s foreign consumers: cheaper-by-the-dozen, questionable quality, mass produced and counterfeit. It is obvious that Chinese companies still have a way to go before they can completely break down these generalizations and be embraced in the world market as brands trusted for their quality. But no matter how hard and long the road to retail redemption may be, a number of Chinese companies are slowly building their brand names in the foreign markets, and more Chinese brands are beginning to garner global followings. Chinese brands becoming household names abroad, known for their reliability and quality, is no longer an unattainable dream. The following four companies are among the Chinese corporations making that dream a reality.

Dayang Suits 大杨西装
The suit maker is listed on the Shanghai stock exchange and has at at least one extremely famous customer --  the “Oracle of Omaha”, Warren Buffett. Buffett even appeared, in his custom tailored Dayang suit, in a promotional video featured on the Dayang website. When the video was posted online Dayang share prices jumped 75 percent.

Dayang Group was founded by Madame Li Guilian, a humble farm girl, who started the company with just one borrowed sewing machine in 1979. She depended on her perseverance and will to succeed in developing a no-name tailoring company into a designer corporation with over 15,000 employees.

FASN Metal Art Cosmetic Mirrors 梵圣艺术化妆镜
World-renowned shopping districts for luxury goods-- Champs Elysées in Paris, Fifth Avenue in New York, Shinjuku Odori in Tokyo, Myeong-dong in Seoul -- are all carrying a new luxury item with a big following amongst the world's fashion elite -- even the famed Ms. Sophie Marceau has one in her purse.  The new luxury item that has high-end consumers in a frenzy is none other than the Chinese-made FASN metal art cosmetic mirrors.

FASN has become so popular in the luxury markets, largely due to its vision, obviously shared by its consumers, to start a new trend of luxury products that embodies “a eco-friendly lifestyle, professional artistry, and a luxury item that is an artwork in itself”.  As such, FASN cosmetic mirrors are crafted with meticulous enameled artistry, stunning design, and a 24k gold-silver coating to represent platinum quality.

Huili (Feiyue) Sneakers 回力鞋
Huili is a brand with over forty years of history in China, and the sneakers can be brought locally for 20 RMB. In the recent years, this homely brand has gathered quite a following in the European and American markets. The shoes now sell for 50 Euros in trendy shops in Europe, 25 times their original price. Trendsetting magazine ELLE tracked the origins and developments of the footwear in their French edition, and as a result, Feiyue's worldwide following is growing quickly.

Huili sneakers were first discovered by Frenchman Patrice Bastian four years ago when he stumbled upon a pair of Huili on the streets of Shanghai, and he resolved to introduce Feiyue to the world. Since then, Feiyue has been blazing a trail, setting new trends worldwide. The brand names most of its footwear after Chinese Kungfu moves, with shoes titled The Shaolin Spirit, The Praying Mantis, The Dragon-Raising Dust and Monkey Fists.

BYD Cars 比亚迪汽车
In a world market engulfed by global economic crisis, BYD Autos is the dark horse that just refuses to be beat; they've astounded everyone with their unexpected success. Buffett's recent investments in the company is undoubtedly BYD's firmest advertisement and foothold for further developments. BYD didn't let Buffett down either. In 2008, Buffett brought 10% stakes in BYD for $1.03 a share ($225 million total), and BYD stocks remunerated a sevenfold value within a year. Even in the strained markets, Buffett easily brought in a balance of profits of $1.3 billion from BYD investments alone.

Still, BYD Autos is walking a fine line -- aping designs of foreign car makers and making look-alike models -- but there is still hope that BYD might still emerge as a world-renowned Chinese car manufacturer.
