The Taizhou Public Security Bureau in Zhejiang has a new scheme. Citizens in Beilu District will receive a 2000 RMB electric vehicle in return for information on stolen vehicles or thieves.

Mr Zhang took advantage of the new regulation right away, when he gave the police information that lead to the arrest of a famous vehicle thief a few days ago in his neighbourhood. The police then told him to come to the station to collect his reward.

This initiative is part of the city’s fight against increasing vehicle theft, encouraging urban dwellers to get involved in their own societies, too.

Good idea, it helps to change the minds of the people and stop being so indifferent. However there is a blow-back... Chinese will ALWAYS expect rewards when doing good deeds to help each other and may increase greed. Unfortunately, I fear it may be more the latter than the former.
