Police Bust Fujian Fake Condom Factory

Police Bust Fujian Fake Condom Factory

The Chinese condom industry isn’t looking too perky at the moment, with this story coming only weeks after a report that one million dodgy Chinese condoms were seized in Ghana.

Apparently police raided an “underground” condom factory in Jinjiang, Fujian, on March 29, detaining 10 workers in the bust (though the story only recently came to light following a police investigation). The factory was reportedly involved in the production of fake branded condoms.

Police first got wind of the dodgy factory back in February after noticing branded condoms, including Durex, selling at crazy-low prices on Taobao. After obtaining a sample of the condoms and performing “checks” and “investigations” to measure their quality, police concluded they were indeed fake and took action.

According to a police chief named Xu, prior to the raid, the factory had been able to produce over 50,000 counterfeit condoms per day. Yikes!
