Nanjing Boy Kidnapped En Route to Gaokao Exam: Father’s Debt to Blame

Taking an exam that determines the course of your future is stressful enough but imagine missing the exam altogether because your dad didn’t repay his debt! That’s exactly what happened to a poor Mingming from Nanjing this week. On June 7, the first day of the all-important Gaokao or National University Entrance Exam, Mingming was kidnapped en route to school causing him to miss his language exam.

According to the boy’s mother, Mrs. Lin, her son left for school alone at 7:07 that morning. Since the school was only 5 minutes away, Mrs. Lin did not accompany her son. However, when she received a call from the school at 7:38 to say that he was not at the bus stop, she immediately sensed that something was wrong.

After several attempts to call her son’s mobile, Mrs. Lin finally got through – however the voice on the other line was the kidnapper. Finally, it all made sense to her: Not long before, a person had caused a scene at the workplace of her ex-husband about some unpaid debt. She immediately called the police who detained the kidnapper.

Mingming’s dad obviously feels terrible about the whole thing but that’s not much of a consolation to Mingming who has no choice but to wait until next year to take the exam.  Poor guy.
