It was reported that on March 24 a giant salamander was found dead in Hebei reservoir, having sadly drowned. The very rare animal was first thought to be a fish but on closer inspection one can distinctly see its limbs. It measured around 50 cm long and was completely gray in color.
What’s more surprising is how far north the little guy was found. The Beijing zoo has tried multiple times to raise these interesting creatures but have found that the climate in the far north of China does not suit their lifestyle and few were able to live for very long.

It died more likely from the pollution. Hebei being an industrial province, wildlife would've perished long ago. Perhaps this is one of the last remaining ones.
