Beijing Man Awarded 20,000 Yuan for Subway Rush Hour Injury

A man named Zhu fell after he was pushed over in a Beijing subway car and fractured his ribs. He proceeded to sue Beijing's subway operation company because he felt that the company failed to fulfill its responsibly to manage the subway safely.

The case goes back two years, in September 2013, when Zhu was violently shoved by other passengers and fell in a subway car while boarding. He suffered fractured ribs and blunt chest trauma, and was sent to the hospital.

Zhu asked for 170,000 Yuan in losses from Beijing Mass Transit Railway Operation Corporation Limited, but was ultimately awarded 20,000 Yuan in compensation by a Beijing court after a long legal battle.

This is not the first case of Beijingers suing the subway operations company for rush hour injuries. In 2005, an 88 year old woman sued for 70,000 Yuan in losses after falling on the platform. Her claims were rejected by the court. In 2014, a woman fractured her leg when she was knocked over by crowds in the subway and received 5,316 Yuan in compensation.
