From November 5th - 7th, the Global Times’ Global Public Opinion Research Centre performed a survey, by random telephone sampling, in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Changsha, Xi'an and Shenyang asking those over the age of 18 to give their views about Japan, China and the neighbouring islands disputes. As of noon on November 7th, the Global Public Opinion Research Centre had a total of 1305 valid answers. The findings are as follows:
Renmin University’s Institute of International Relations Professor Jin Canrong said that the survey shows that people do not rush to use drastic measures to solve the problem. It's generally believed that through long-term development, it is of vital importance to make our country strong and prosperous and to improve people's living standards. In addition, we conclude from the ratio of distribution of some of the findings that Chinese society has diverse perspectives and diversified interests, which will increase the difficulty of making foreign policy decisions.
