According to the recently published "2011 Yangtze River Conservation and Development Report", in the past 30 years, 96 lakes (larger than 1 sq. km) located in the drainage areas of the Yangtze River have disappeared. According to the newest data from the second lakes survey, in the past 50 years, more than 243 lakes (larger than 1 sq. km) have disappeared.
